Healer of Boston Athletes Returns to Campus

Scott Waugh
Scott Waugh '90 is a physical therapist for the Boston Bruins.

Fans may groan when Boston Bruins star forward Milan Lucic breaks his finger, or Red Sox third baseman Mike Lowell starts favoring his sore hip. But for alumnus Scott Waugh ’90, rehabilitation coordinator and physical therapist for the Red Sox and Bruins, his professional life gets a bit more intense.

Waugh will be on campus on Monday, Nov. 9, at 3:30 p.m. in the Weed Lecture Hall on South Campus to discuss his role in helping some of Boston’s best-known athletes get back to work – and fans breathe easier. Free and open to the public, this is the fourth talk in the Power of Possibility Alumni Showcase.

The physical therapy major has worked for the Bruins for 13 years and the Red Sox for five years. It was his work with Red Sox outfielder Trot Nixon in 2004 that really got him noticed. Waugh helped Nixon return from a mid-season quadriceps injury in time for him to make a difference in the team’s historic World Series win.

In addition to his sometimes overlapping jobs with the Bruins and Red Sox, he is also co-owner of Sports and Physical Therapy Associates and the clinical director of sports therapy for the Division of Sports Medicine at Mass General Hospital.

The Power of Possibility Alumni Showcase highlights successful alumni as they return to campus to share their wisdom and career stories with the University community. For more information, contact Heather_Makrez@uml.edu or 978-934-4809.
