ASBSC Raking Leaves for Donations - 11/21 November 21, 2009 -

It’s official!  The Alternative Spring Break Service Club is sponsoring two trips this year.  One group will work with the Tohono O’odham Nation in AZ (http://www.tonation-nsn.gov) and the other will help establish an ASB exchange with the Los Patojos program in Jocotenango, Guatemala (http://www.risingminds.org/) while farming and working with their 60+ youth.  To make these trips affordable for our UML students, we are again Raking Leaves for Donations.  If you or anyone you know needs their leaves raked before the holidays, please contact us.  Cash or checks made out to UMass Lowell – ASB (Tax deductible as allowed by law.)

University Choir and Chamber Singers Help Celebrate 125th Anniversary of Cathedral - 11/22 2 p.m.

The University of Massachusetts Lowell Choir and Chamber Singers have been invited to perform at the 125th anniversary celebration of the parish of St. Joseph. The will perform Handel's "Messiah" (part one) and Britten's Ceremony of Caroles with harp accompaniment. The event is free (with a freewill offering encouraged) and open to the public.

QUEST Student Giving Kickoff Party - 12/01 6 p.m.
Come learn about the QUEST (Quality Undergraduate Education, a Student Tradition) student giving program at a fun kickoff party with free Mexican food, music and a raffle for great prizes, such as Celtics tickets, an iPod and tickets for Senior Week. QUEST is a new program that encourages UMass Lowell students to learn about the importance of giving back. QUEST provides scholarships for students who might not be able to complete their final year because of financial reasons. Students who give to the QUEST program are helping their fellow students achieve a shared goal.

Culture Shock Advisory Board - 12/04 2:30 p.m. -
Last semester ASAO, LASA, HSA, and LHSAS collaborated to organize a multicultural event never seen before on the UMass Lowell campus. Culture Shock featured a talent show, music, fashion, exotic food and more. This year, ASAO is looking to collaborate with more clubs and student leaders on campus to form a planning board for this year's Culture Shock. If you are interested in joining or know of any of your members who may be interested in joining, we will be holding a meeting to talk about bringing another big multicultural event like this to campus.

University String Ensembles Concert - 12/10 7:30 p.m. -

The String Ensemble Fall Concert presents an exciting new formation: the UML Cello Ensemble!  Together with their new teacher, Aristides Rivas, they will feature works by Apocalyptica, a band playing Metallica with four cellos, paired with Psalm and Fugue for String Orchestra by Alan Hovhaness, a work that transforms practically any performance space into a cathedral and Villa Lobos' Bachianas Brasileiras No. 1 arranged for two violas & six celli. In a series of nine suites by this most significant Brazilian composer, each represents a fusion between Brazilian folk and popular music and the style of Johann Sebastian Bach - an irresistible combination!  The concert is free & open to the public!
